Bonnie Wilson served as the Portage County Safety Council manager from 2006-2012. In 2005, when it looked like operation challenges could’ve brought it to an end, Bonnie found the program a new home at Family & Community Services. Before leaving the agency, she raised up a successor to ensure long-term success. Without Bonnie, the Portage County Safety Council would likely not be here today.
What did you enjoy the most about serving at the Portage County Safety Council?
“I enjoyed the people. Getting together for regular meetings with a great group of people who were so dedicated to their roles and who took their roles so seriously. Meeting regularly to break bread, learn about important safety-related topics and fellowship with some of the smartest most professional people was something I always looked forward to!”
What accomplishments are you most proud of during your time serving at the Portage County Safety Council?
“Without soundly like I’m blowing my own horn, I am proud that I was able to “rescue” the Portage County Safety Council and find a new home for it. In 2005, the Red Cross, who had managed the Safety Council for a number of years, was experiencing significant operational challenges and changes and felt they could no longer manage the PCSC. I asked if I was able to find an entity willing to take it over, would they relinquish management of the PCSC to the new entity to which they agreed. In January 2006, the Portage County Safety Council was moved to its new, and I’m happy to say current, home with Family & Community Services!”
