  • January/February 2023 – OSC23 Podcast Project: We partnered with the Ohio BWC and Ohio Safety Congress to create podcast previews with some of their top speakers for their 2023 event. Click here to listen to the episodes.
  • September/October 20222 – NE Ohio Safety Expo Podcast Project: We partnered with the Ohio BWC and the NE Ohio Safety Expo to create podcast previews with some of their top speakers for their 2022 event.
  • July 2022 – Return to In-Person Meetings: As the COVID-19 pandemic came to an end, all Ohio Safety Councils returned to in-person meetings.
  • April 2022 – Mental Health Awareness Campaign: In partnership with Family & Community Services, and the Trumbull County Mental Health & Recovery Board we launched this campaign for Mental Health Awareness Month. The campaign provided free campaign tools, a dedicated podcasts series and related resources to help employers promote mental health improvement.

  • November 2021 – 10K Podcast Downloads! The Portage County Safety Council Podcast has been recognized by Podbean for achieving 10,000 downloads! Thank you to our members, listeners, steering committee and all of you who partnered with us to make it happen.
  • June 2021 – 20 Best Workplace Safety Podcasts of 2021: Recognized by Welp Magazine in June 2021 as #3 on the 20 Best Workplace Safety Podcasts of 2021.
  • July 2020 – Virtual Safety Council Program: In response to COVID-19 and government mandated order to not meet in groups, the PCSC launched the 2020-21 Virtual Safety Council Program with plans to double their typical workplace safety & health education by offering it online.
  • July 2020 – 40 Hours of Podcast Content! On July 13, 2020, we published our 175th episode of the Portage County Safety Council Podcast, totaling over 40 hours of original content downloaded in over 43 nations and 43 states!
  • April 2020 – Get Outside Campaign: In partnership with primarily the Portage Park District, the Get Outside Campaign aimed at improving health & wellness by highlighting local parks & trails while promoting the benefits of spending time outdoors! The campaign provided free campaign tools and related resources to help employers promote & improve health & wellness. This campaign helped our podcast to break a new monthly download record.
  • February 2020 – Launched our You Tube Channel: Originally started to automatically publish static videos of our podcast through Podbean. Now it’s used to host our webinar training.
  • January 2020 – Healthy Workers are Safer Workers Campaign: The Healthy Workers are Safer Workers Campaign was created to help employers reduce workplace injuries by promoting worker health & wellness! IN addition, the campiagn provided free campaign tools and relevant workplace wellness resources to help companies promote & improve worker health!
  • January 2020 – 1st Workplace Wellness Month: We teamed up with the Summit County Safety Council to promote workplace wellness for the month of January 2020! As a part of that Wellness Month, we published 5 related wellness podcast (breaking previous monthly download record), hosted Reboot Your Health at our monthly luncheon, launched our Health Workers are Healthy Workers Campaign handing out 100 free campaign posters and making more resources available online.
  • October 2019 – Published Why I Stay Safe Employer Toolkit: The Why I Stay Safe Employer Toolkit is an 8-page electronic publication aimed at helping employers improve their safety performance by integrating a “Why I Stay Safe” themed campaign into their current safety program. The publication reviews the results of a member survey, highlights key takeaways from the survey, lists easy ways for employers to implement the campaign and provides free campaign resources (posters, graphics, etc.) to help them get started.
  • October 2019 – Launch 1st Official Safety Campaign: The Why I Stay Safe Campaign is aimed at helping employers to better connect their safety message to their employees by making it more personal. The campaign also provides key insight and campaign resources that make implementing such a campaign  simple and easy to do!
  • June 2019 – Winner – 2019 BWC Canton/Cambridge Safety Council “Stand-Down” to Prevent Falls Challenge: The PCSC took 1st place in a regional safety council challenge with 23.9% member participation & 10,587 individuals trained in fall protection during May 2019!
  • May 2019 – Honorable Mention – 2018 Safety Council of the Year. Awarded on May 6, 2019, by the Ohio BWC Division of Safety & Hygiene “for excellence and dedication in the promotion of occupational safety and health”. The award also included a $750 increase in bonus funding for the next fiscal year.
  • June 2018 – 2018 Portage County Workplace Health & Safety Expo: This was our 3rd expo. The event boasted 16 educational breakout sessions, a large safety & health exhibit hall, event t-shirts and a fun Safety Feud game hosted by Swift First Aid.
  • February 2018 – The Portage County Safety Council Podcast Officially Launched: Podcast episodes were now available on popular apps such as iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Podbean, Stitcher!
  • May 2017 – Honorable Mention – 2016 Safety Council of the Year:  Awarded on May 1, 2017, by the Ohio BWC Division of Safety & Hygiene “for excellence and dedication in the promotion of occupational safety and health”. The award also included a $750 increase in bonus funding for the next fiscal year.
  • September 2016 – Nominated – 2016 Celebrate Portage! Best Public Health Initiative: “The Portage County Public Health Initiative Award recognizes programs or initiatives in Portage County that have been developed and implemented and demonstrate an effort to build better systems to provide all people the tools they need to reach their full potential for health.” The Portage County Workforce Health & Wellness Coalition was nominated for this award for their 2015 work developing and publishing Engaging Your Workforce in Wellness.
  • June 2016 – 2016 Portage County Workplace Health & Safety Expo: This was our 2nd expo. The event boasted 16 educational breakout sessions, a large safety & health exhibit hall, event t-shirts and a first ever Safety Feud game hosted by Swift First Aid.
  • May 2016 – Honorable Mention – 2015 Safety Council of the Year. Awarded on May 2, 2016, by the Ohio BWC Division of Safety & Hygiene “for excellence and dedication in the promotion of occupational safety and health”. The award also included a $750 increase in bonus funding for the next fiscal year.
  • September 2015 – Celebrate Portage! 2015 Best Health Initiative Award: The “Community Celebration” Healthy Public Initiative Award recognizes programs or initiatives in Portage County that have been developed and implemented and demonstrate an effort to build better systems to provide all people with the tools they need to reach their full potential for health. This award was award to the Portage County Safety Council for their 2014 Health & Wellness Initiative.
  • June 2015 – Published Engaging Your Workforce in Wellness: In collaboration with 7 local businesses, agencies and organizations (referred to as the Portage County Workforce Health & Wellness Coalition), the PCSC published Engaging Your Workforce in Wellness.  Engaging Your Workforce in Wellness is a 24-page toolkit promoting the benefits of employee health & wellness programs and providing employers with evidence-based strategies on how to implement or improve them. 1,000 hard copies were distributed locally and electronic copies were distributed to 83 Ohio Safety Councils potentially reaching over 10,000 member employers!
  • May 2015 – Honorable Mention – 2014 Safety Council of the Year: Awarded on May 4, 2015, by the Ohio BWC Division of Safety & Hygiene “for excellence and dedication in the promotion of occupational safety and health”. The award also included a $750 increase in bonus funding for the next fiscal year.
  • June 2014 – The 1st Ever Portage County Workplace Health & Safety Expo: This was the first of this type of event to be hosted in Portage County! The event boasted 12 educational breakout sessions, a large safety & health exhibit hall and a key note speaker.
  • May 2014 – 2nd Place – 2013 Safety Council of the Year: Awarded on May 5, 2014, by the Ohio BWC Division of Safety & Hygiene “for excellence and dedication in the promotion of occupational safety and health”. The award also included a $5,500 increase in bonus funding for the next fiscal year.
  • January 2013 – Revitalization Initiative: Under new leadership the PCSC began to embark on a new era aimed at continuous improvement that continues through today.
  • Founded in 1958: Not much else is known about its origins but yes, the PCSC was founded in 1958!
